Educational work in correctional institutions is one of the means of correction of convicted persons serving a sentence of imprisonment. According to the penal enforcement legislation, educational work includes moral, legal, labor, physical and other education of persons sentenced to imprisonment, which contributes to their correction. Accordingly, the article considers various forms of physical culture and sports work in correctional institutions. As the author points out, the choice of forms of physical culture and sports work in correctional institutions depends on many factors: the actual material and medical capabilities of the institution; the selection and training of physiologists from among the convicts, physical education instructors from among the employees of the Federal penitentiary service, who will be able to motivate convicts in a correctional institution to engage in daily physical exercises. A study conducted in the correctional institution of the Federal penitentiary service of Russia in the Sverdlovsk region showed that there is a wide range of problems in the organization of sports and recreation work with women who were first sentenced to imprisonment.
The article also discusses the need to conduct a set of measures with convicted women, including physical culture and health-improving work aimed at adapting to the established order of serving a sentence, regime requirements, material and medical support in the institution.
