Annotation:

This article examines the role of information and its requirements received by employees of operational divisions of the criminal Executive system of the Russian Federation in order to perform functions for the prevention, prevention, detection and disclosure of offenses committed in institutions and bodies of the criminal Executive system. The analysis of the difference between unreliable information and misinformation, that is, intentionally presented incorrect (false) information. The necessary analytical approach to any received information is justified in order to exclude “husks” of unnecessary information from the actions taken, while saving time, effort and money when processing it. Mandatory rechecking of information for its reliability is one of the mandatory elements of the operational officer’s professional activity. The absence of this procedure may lead to undesirable consequences.
A retrospective approach to the issue of information and its significance is briefly considered, while today there are quite a large number of definitions of information, which leaves a large field of activity, that is, there is no General legal specific definition of information today. The conclusion suggests using the definition of Norbert Wiener: “Information is not matter or energy, information is information.”
