Annotation:

The article is devoted to the study of personal and behavioral characteristics of persons first sentenced to imprisonment with an emotionally unstable personality disorder, serving sentences in correctional institutions of the Federal penitentiary service of Russia. The article presents the materials of an empirical study of 75 male respondents serving sentences in a high-security correctional institution, held in prison for more than a year . The criterion for inclusion in the study group is the list of persons with a clinically established diagnosis of personality disorders according to the criteria of ICD-10 established by a correctional institution psychiatrist. The data provided by the psychiatrist in the framework of interaction with the penitentiary psychologist is regulated by existing internal orders and contributes to more effective psychological correction and psychological support for persons with personality disorders. According to the diagnostic tool used in Russian psychiatry – ICD-10, personality disorders are defined as a severe violation of the characterological Constitution and behavioral tendencies of an individual, usually involving several spheres of personality and almost always accompanied by personal and social disintegration. It is proposed to consider the issue of psychological correction of violations in prisoners with emotionally unstable personality disorder in the aggregate of personal and behavioral spheres. A correlation study of personal and behavioral characteristics of first-time prisoners with emotionally unstable personality disorder was conducted. In the course of the conducted research, it was revealed that the following features are characteristic for persons who were first sentenced to imprisonment with an emotionally unstable personality disorder: increased impulsivity, inability to account for and plan the consequences of their actions (a tendency to violate rules and laws that lead to certain consequences), acceptance of certain criminal values (unformed legal awareness). The results of the research can be used by prison psychologists in practical activities.
