Annotation:

The article discusses the theoretical justification of the emergence and establishment of museums in educational organizations for the training of prison staff in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The author gives a look at the educational concepts of scientists and officials of the penitentiary department, dedicated to the organization of museums in educational institutions for the training of prison staff. The essential content of their conceptual provisions in the organization of museums and the implementation of museum activities is analyzed and revealed.
The author expresses and substantiates the opinion, draws parallels about the continuity of certain well-established museum traditions of our time with the first theoretical positions of scientists and officials of the penitentiary department for organizing museums in educational institutions for the training of prison staff in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century.
